Beware fish and livestock!

Figures released on the number of independent retailers show their numbers are growing with Butchers and Fishmongers leading the way.

With the closure of a number of significant high street chains such as woolworths, you would be forgiven for thinking it was the death knell for the High St but it appears there's an independent uprising. Recent figures have pointed towards an increase of 5.6% of independent retailers compared to the same period as last year. Of the 12,000 new shops which opened in the second half of last year, 10,000 were independents and even more astonishing is the fact that Butchers and Fismongers are leading the way with an increase of 11.6%. Thanks in no small part to the work of Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Jamie Oliver and the numerous "Support your Local....." campaigns lead by a sturdy bunch up and down the country.

That's two fingers to the retail giants that Acorn definitely supports.
